    (c) Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    (d) Tumour viruses (oncogenic viruses).

  4. Write briefly on four of the following:

    (a) Endotoxins

    (b) The secondary immune response

    (c) The use of microorganisms in the manufacture of antibiotics

    (d) Numerical taxonomy of bacteria

    (e) Basidiomycetes.

  5. Write briefly on four of the following:

    (a) Phagocytosis

    (b) Gram positive cell walls

    (c) Spore formation

    (d) Bacterial growth curve

    (e) Microbial anaerobic fermentations.

  6. Outline the mechanisms whereby a bacterial cell can adapt to its environment in terms or enzyme synthesis and enzyme activity.
    OR

    Outline the interaction and derivation of T and B cells and their respective roles in the immune response.
